For the one and only, it is treated as a proper noun for the present.
When I refer it to the Internet (Internet) as a common name in Japan, I become the meaning of the narrow sense (The Internet, The Net).
I belong to the Internet (an internet) of the wide sense with Internet 2 (Internet2) for the moment.
U.S.A. adopted Internet 2 as a standard protocol and came to generally spread again globally.
